Today general availability for Veeam Backup for Office 365 was released. As a Veeam Cloud Service Provider, today marks an exciting day to extend our Veeam Backup capabilities into Office 365.
First things first, lets try clear up an old but very common misconception:
Why do i need backup for Office 365? Microsoft do that for me don’t they?
In short, no they don’t. Microsoft state that the data that is sat within the customer Office 365 tenant is the customers responsibility. Depending on license, Microsoft will provide various retention policies for your data, but do not protect all of your data 100%. Below is a great slide, courtesy of Veeam Software, that really highlights the protection Microsoft give you out of the box.
So, how can Veeam help me protect my Office 365 data?
Veeam released v1.0 of Veeam Backup for Office 365 in around April 2017. Since then their capabilities have increased significantly, and provided VCSP’s a great platform to deliver data protection services to clients. With new v2.0 release, Veeam have now extended support to OneDrive and SharePoint Online. I know these features have been highly sort after since the introduction of v1.5

In its long-standing tradition to give back to the IT community, Veeam is also releasing Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 Community Edition. This new edition provides access and control of Office 365 data for free, with functionality identical to that of the paid version, but limited to 10 users and 1 TB of protected SharePoint data.
